Cofete viewpoint: how to get there and what to know

The viewpoint where Jandía suddenly opens up
The Mirador de Cofete is one of Fuerteventura’s most dramatic viewpoints. After climbing through the mountains of Jandía, the west coast appears below you almost all at once: a vast beach, dark ridges and the Atlantic stretching beyond them.
How to get there
The usual access is from Morro Jable along the road into Jandía. Part of the journey is on an unpaved track, so drive slowly and check what your rental agreement permits before setting off. Road conditions can vary.
At the viewpoint
The area is exposed and can be very windy. Hold onto hats and phones, open car doors carefully and keep children close. Even if you decide not to continue down to Cofete, the viewpoint alone can justify the excursion.
Continue to the beach or turn back?
Base the decision on daylight, road conditions, your vehicle and how comfortable you feel driving. There is no prize for forcing the route when conditions are not right.
- Take water.
- Use sun protection.
- Download an offline map.
- Leave with enough fuel.
- Allow plenty of time for the return journey.
The viewpoint is one of the clearest places to understand the scale of Fuerteventura: mountains, sand and ocean with very little between them.
